VReha
VReha research project: "Virtual worlds for digital diagnostics and cognitive rehabilitation"
Research on the use of VR for the assessment and rehabilitation of cognitive impairments (e.g., in stroke patients).

Main focus on two tasks to perform
Virtual Memory Task to test memory encoding and recall.
Supermarket to test spatial navigation and executive functions.

Both tasks have two purposes
A) Diagnostics - with the aim to compare performance across individuals and groups (e.g., patients, controls).
B) Training - based on the baseline/diagnostic assessment, tailored tools to gradually improve a user's cognitive function.

Platform
The diagnostic application is aimed at tethered immersive VR as the patient performs the task with a clinician present. Desktop VR is currently also the most used and flexible way of setting up VR applications.

Technical
The application is developed within the Unity3D game engine. The HMD used is the Oculus Rift, the hand tracking is done with the Leap Motion sensor with some custom developed handling algorithms.

My role
Develop a stable VR application that can be used in the clinical context with patients to collect meaningful data.
This data is analysed and used for the feasibility analysis of the project.
